Trail-A-Bike Jr. Compact Folder (Silver) Reviews

She was used to riding her little 12" bike with training wheels- and was too scared to get on the bike more than a couple times. I think, in retrospect, that it was my fault, as the bike I was borrowing was too big for me and I didn't feel secure, so how could she.But now, one year later, she is 5 and I have an awesome bike, we went out yesterday with the tandem (what i like to call it) and had a blast! She can ride her own bike without training wheels now, so it's not about teaching her anything in particular- it's more about having a shared/team experience together outdoors. I wish I had spent the extra money on the bike with the gears, as I could use the extra force of her helping to push through on hills and grassy terrain. So, if you think you will want to ride it with your child for a few years, consider that. As it is, her pedaling doesn't give me much help. Aside from that, it is very easy to... This trail a bike (the compact one for smaller children) needs to be attached to a bicycle with a minimum 26" tire (which was stated in the manual but not on the box). That way when making turns the childs pedal does not hit the ground. Unfortunately my husband's mountain bike has 24" tires but it works on mine. Still we orginally planned to have it on his bicycle. 2. Within the first 10 minutes of riding, the back wheel locked up. We are fairly handy so after some inspection, we noticed the freewheel had loosened all the way up and was rubbing against the metal frame. We were able to fix it on our own by spinning along the thread til it was back on then really tightened it down. So make sure you don't go too far from home on your first ride. On a great note, my son started using this a couple of weeks before he turned three. We bought the extra... My 7yo and 3.5 yo love riding bikes, but the 7yo is frustrated at the 3.5yo snails pace on her 12" wheel bike (with training wheels), and she can't ride as long as he wants to.I bought the compact folder because I had read that most people who had the "original" folder had to use pedal blocks to make their 3yo fit. This bike fits my girl with no problems, but it is obvious the full size version would have been about an 1" too tall. My 3yo loves it. It has minimal sway to it, and after a couple of trips up and down the block, she was ready for some long distance. The problem is that my 7yo loves to ride it to, and doesn't want to let the 3yo on. It fits him to, and we managed a 7 mile ride today. Maybe a tandem bike is next on the shopping list. |
